Jean-Paul Sartre

Born the 27th June 1939 in Kluoniškiai, Kaunas district, Lithuania.
In 1958-1964 he studied journalism at Vilnius University.
In 1968-1969 he became one of the founders of the Lithuanian Society of Photographic Art.

He realized more than 120 works. Major works: Lithuanian People (1959); Lithuania from a Bird’s Eye (1973–1980); Meetings with Bulgaria (1972–1979); Lithuanians of the World (1991–1994); Nostalgia for Bare Feet (1959–1979); Pro Memoria: To the Living Martyrs of Kaunas’ Ghetto (1994–1997); Past Times (1999)

1969 -1974 : Chairman of the Organizational Committee
1974-1980 : Vice-Chairman du Comité d'Organisation
1980-1989 : Chairman of Lithuanian Society of Photographic Art
1970 : Member of the Lithuanian Union of Art Photographers
1989-1990 and since 1996 : Chairman of the Lithuanian Union of Art Photographers
1980 : awarded the name of Honored Culture Worker of Lithuania
1983 : Lithuanian State Premium
1997 : decorated with the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas of the 4th degree
1998 : Art Award of the Lithuanian Government
2001-2002 : Price of the Erna and Victor Hasselblad Foundation (Sweden) and grant for Documentation and Conservation of Antanas Sutkus’ Archive of Photographs
2003 : National Premium for Art
2006 : decorated with the Golden Cross of the President of Poland Republic
